After “indefinitely” banning unauthorized parties at properties booked through Airbnb in 2020, the company has permanently banned them.

Aunger Vacation Homes has always followed these rules and continues to follow these rules and we work to make sure our guests and the community we host in are there as safe places and great places to stay in.

The firm said that the temporary ban was effective in curbing guests throwing unauthorized parties or chronic party houses that disturb neighbors.

“We believe there is a direct correlation between our implementation of the policy in August 2020 and a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports. The ban has been well received by our Host community and we’ve received positive feedback from community leaders and elected officials. As we build on this momentum, we believe the time is right to codify this policy,” Airbnb explained in a blog post.

While Airbnb allowed hosts to hold limited parties, it banned open parties in 2019. It also launched a neighborhood helpline to report noisy parties or concerns about someone’s personal safety on the booked property. The company took this step after many people died at different parties hosted on Airbnb-booked properties.

Back in August 2020, the company had also put a cap of 16 people in large occupancy houses. While it was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the measure was also taken to curb parties. Now, with this new policy about parties, it will remove the 16-person limit for large properties based on host feedback in the coming months.

Airbnb said guests who break the policy can face suspension or a blanket ban from the holiday booking platform. It noted that last year, it banned 6,600 users for violating the company’s party rules.

Disruptive parties and events will continue to be prohibited, including open-invite gatherings. “Party house” properties will continue to be strictly prohibited as well.

The temporary party ban policy announced in the summer of 2020 included a 16-person occupancy cap — which was prompted primarily by COVID-19 concerns around large gatherings prior to the introduction of vaccines.

Our Community Standards prohibit members of the Airbnb Community from creating a nuisance that disturbs the surrounding neighborhood. Hosts and guests can meet this standard by making sure they clearly align on expectations for gatherings at listings. While we believe most guests are respectful, we’ve created our Parties and Events policy to provide clear guidance on what is expected from everyone. Until further notice, the policy prohibits:

Gatherings of more than 16 people
All disruptive parties and events
Guests who are reported for throwing a disruptive party or violating our rules on gatherings of more than 16 people are subject to suspension or removal from Airbnb’s platform. In some cases, guest reviews left after such parties may be removed. We may also remove listings if we determine that a Host has authorized a party that violates this policy. If we receive reports that a listing is disrupting the surrounding community, we may request that the Host update their rules or suspend the listing.

In addition to strengthening our rules around parties, we’re also working on risk-detection technologies that help stop disruptive parties before they even start.

Large gatherings
Until further notice, gatherings of more than 16 people—including both overnight guests and visitors—are not allowed, regardless of Host authorization.

Parties and events
Until further notice, all disruptive parties and events are prohibited, regardless of size. Guests who hold these types of events may have their account removed, and Hosts who violate this rule and allow guests to throw parties may be subject to account consequences up to and including the removal of their listing.
